Large institutions and religious centres were established with this patronage. Several years after the Buddha's death two major branches of Buddhist thought emerged: one called Hinayana, the little vehicle, and the other Mahayana, the great vehicle that carries one to salvation.
In the 10th and 12th centuries, as Muslim armies began to conquer territories in India, several Buddhist institutions were destroyed. Idol worship, not permissible under Islam, came under threat and Buddhist monks fled from mainland India to shelter in the Himalayan mountains. In time, these retreats, in the valleys of Tibet, Bhutan, Nepal and Ladakh in India, became famous centres of learning. Here, manuscripts, sciences and rituals and the gentle way of the Buddha were preserved over the centuries.
The vegetables dyes of deep shades are used to create religious scenes. The final effect comes with repeating the process of coloring. The uniqueness of these painting is that no two panels are similar. Vegetable and mineral pigments are used to create these paintings. The artists believe in using natural dyes, extracted from bark, flower and root. One would be stunned to know that the colour red is obtained by using the Indian madder root, yellow from the pomegranate seed or even mango bark, and black from myrobalam fruit. The process used for both schools of Kalamkari painting is more or less the same. The only major difference is that Srikalahasti paintings depend entirely on the brush-like pen whereas the Masulipatnam style uses block-printing procedures. The process done in Srikalahasti is more tedious. The cloth is treated and washed twice, and two or three times alum is painted.
Generally no space is left empty; the gaps are filled by paintings of flowers, animals, birds, and even geometric designs. Colors applied have no shading. Normally a double line is drawn for the outlines, with the gap between the lines filled by cross or tiny straight lines. In the linear painting, no colors are applied. Only the outlines are drawn. Often, a coat of whitewash is also applied before actually starting the painting. Traditionally, natural colors obtained from plant extracts are used.
Warli paintings express everyday life using extremely basic object forms and just one color - white - on an austere mud base. The painting style is close to pre-historic cave paintings. Warli paintings serve the social and religious aspirations of the people. These paintings do not depict mythological characters or images of deities, but depict social life. Images of human beings and animals, along with scenes from daily life are created in a loose rhythmic pattern.Arjikujahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17934733195457984283noreply@blogger.com3Mumbai, Maharashtra, India19.0759837 72.87765590000003618.886130199999997 72.775582400000033 19.2658372 72.979729400000039tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3209211706239921024.post-46056971384178177672011-12-13T16:41:00.000-06:002012-05-02T17:42:01.290-05:00Stainless Steel Kitchen Utensils, Serve-ware, Tableware, Cutlery and Dinner Set
Care Tips - Stainless steel is all the rage for kitchen appliances and decor, and is still a prime choice for high-end cookware. But a wet rag won't always take the goo off, and often leaves streaks and dark spots. Here are several inexpensive, natural ways to clean the material using household products.

The gentlest method of cleaning stainless steel is to simply wipe the surface with hot water and a soft, clean cloth.

If plain water leaves behind some dirt or grease, try adding a gentle detergent to the water.

Grease can be dissolved with rubbing alcohol on a soft cloth.

Stubborn or burnt-on stains can be scrubbed off with a soft cloth and a paste of baking soda and water.

Silver bracelets in beautiful designs and colors. Made of fine quality sterling silver, these bracelets are also available in gemstones and other semi precious stones. Bracelets have great romantic and amorous connotation. A simple bracelet is slipped on to the wrist by mere pressure, occasionally over a thin coating of oil applied to the hand. Some bracelets have a gap between the two ends from where these are slipped on to the wrist from its side. In most cases, the single tier bracelet, when hollow, is adorned with repousse work motifs, and when solid, with engraving. In two tiered bracelets, the outer rim is usually adorned with additional lobes, pendants, and jingle bells. This Indian style bangle jewelry comes with fine enamel painting, popularly known as meenakari work. Each bangle set is worn in pairs. Sterling bangle is a preferred fashion jewelry of the middle age women in India. Like the sterling bangle bracelet, arm bangle too is very popular, though mostly with younger women. Jewelry adds charms to ones beauty and one of the most preferred gift for any occasion. Light weighted bangle bracelets are perfect for wearing everyday. Gift these bangle bracelets to your friend and relatives.Arjikujahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17934733195457984283noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3209211706239921024.post-41861535683005735732011-10-26T02:47:00.003-05:002014-06-24T05:41:10.957-05:00Devi Lakshmi, The Goddess of Wealth, Prosperity and LoveAccording to Hindu scriptures Goddess Lakshmi is the consort of Vishnu. When the gods were exiled, Lakshmi took refuge in the ocean of milk. She was reborn when the ocean was churned. As soon as she appeared, the gods fell in love with her. Shiva, claimed her, but her hand was given to Vishnu. Lakshmi was reborn as Vishnu's consort in every incarnation of his, as Sita, Radha and Rukmini. In the Hindu gods and goddesses, Lakshmi is the Goddess of light, beauty, good fortune and wealth.
It is a stone of passion that sometimes needs to be transformed into the power of purity. It is with purity of heart that we are able to see God. In the temple of the human body, the sacred spinal fire lies coiled like a snake and is called the "sacred stone." It is awakened and lifted upward toward the head by the process of transmutation. The sacral plexus is red, but when the fire is lifted toward the mid-section of the body it functions under the blue ray; as it nears the spiritual centers it becomes the purple violet ray. The red garnets help energize and bring the circulation level to normal if deficient. They also work with the generative system and stimulate the sexual drive.

The pink violet shades work on regeneration and transmutation. If gold was the preferred metal of the affluent, silver was the staple of the rural and tribal areas. It was a means of saving money, and an indication of a person's wealth. The jewellery was a mobile "bank", serving as both adornment to be kept on the person and a stand by in times of need. This is perhaps one reason why the jewellery appears so heavy and chunky.

Areas, and communities within areas, had their own distinctive design ocabularies, and local silversmiths fashioned the metal into beaded chokers, long ropes of chains, heavy collars, pendant boxes, a huge variety of bangles, bracelets, wristlets and amulets, nose rings and of course anklets. Of anklets alone, there is an almost bewildering range which seems to go from heavy to heaviest! So large are some anklets that you would think they make silver was studded with semi-precious stones like turquoise, coral or agate. And in the dry land of Banni in Kutch, the dun landscape is like a backdrop for some of the most spectacular jewellery in India. Here, as elsewhere, the jewellery, the clothes, the embroideries, are all social identifiers, indicating where the woman is from to what caste she belongs and whether she is married. The irony of this poem may make you smile, but contrary to the poet's belief it is a fact that gems exert a strange magnetic pull. Jewellery exhibitions the world over attract adiences who do indeed look twice at "girl-less gems", as much for their beauty and flawlessness as for their rarity and thus value.Arjikujahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17934733195457984283noreply@blogger.com0Mumbai, Maharashtra, India19.0176147 72.85616440000001118.826811199999998 72.7533269 19.2084182 72.959001900000018tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3209211706239921024.post-16817047135012559222011-05-11T00:42:00.004-05:002011-11-09T05:36:14.671-06:00Kurti India Wear Beautiful Summer Dress

Kurti and Tunic is very much in fashion these days. The Warli painters are from Maharashtra, in western India. Their white line paintings with simple, direct figures have a close link to the cave paintings of their ancestors. For example, there are paintings in Ajanta and Ellora from many centuries ago. For the Warli painters who execute these masterpieces, daily life still involves the rigors of subsistence farming in the foothills of the Sahyadri range in the district of Thane. Working in the fields with the village in the background, their art is a reflection of the simple beauty of their agrarian lives. Each tribe or community in India has a special deity whom they hold dear. Though they believe in polytheistic religion, one god or goddess usually holds pride of place as the protector of the community. For the Warlis, the main goddess is Palghat, who oversees the bounty of nature. She is responsible for fertility of mankind as well and therefore invoked at the time of marriage. Given their agrarian lifestyle, and spiritual beliefs, Warli paintings depict scenes from their everyday worlds. Scenes from nature, farming activities, and jungle lore are a source of inspiration for these tribal painters.

Each painting has exquisite details of the trees, animals, and people of the countryside. Some of the most dramatic of these linear rice paste paintings are actually inside the huts of the Warlis. They dwell in square windowless huts made of wood, straw and mud. These dull and dreary brown huts are brightened up by the contrast of exquisite white line paintings. Today, Warli painters continue to pursue their traditional artwork, despite their exposure to modern, urbanized lifestyles. Their humble and reserved outlook allows them to focus on their beautiful paintings, while also drawing on the benefits of new income opportunities that have opened up to them due to the expanding Indian economy.Arjikujahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17934733195457984283noreply@blogger.com0Mumbai, Maharashtra, India19.0176147 72.85616440000001118.826811199999998 72.7533269 19.2084182 72.959001900000018tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3209211706239921024.post-56876364524754948112011-04-04T05:28:00.003-05:002011-11-09T05:36:14.672-06:00Jewellery Setting - Making of JewelryIf you thought making jewellery was merely the job of a designer and his craftsman, you can think again. Kundan work is a method of gem setting, consisting of inserting gold foil between the stones and its mount. Kundan work is often combined with meenakari, so that a piece of jewllery has two equally beautiful surfaces, enamel at the back end and kundan set gems in the front. Meenakari involves the fusion of colored minerals, such as cobalt oxide for blue and copper oxede for green. This gives the effect of precious stone inlay work on the surface of the metal.

Jaipur is the main centre of kundan jewellery. It is the stone that all little girls choose when they are given a chance to pick from a whole array of healing stones. This stone is also chosen by many older women who attend healing groups with me. It is humble in its price, and easily affordable as a love or friendship gift.

Rose quartz is one of the most desirable varieties of quartz. The pink to rose red color is completely unique, unlike any other pink mineral species. The color is caused by iron and titanium impurities. Belly chains, also known as girdles or waist belts, are worn generally by women, for the sake of fashion, or for holding the lower garments and the belly tight, or both. Some belly chains are small and light, while some are heavy. Although many belly chains are worn tightly on the waist, there are also others that simply rest on the hip. Circular rings alternate through the chains, and the wearer can adjust them across the waist by putting the fastening device at one end of the chain through one of those circles, as per her waist length.Arjikujahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17934733195457984283noreply@blogger.com0Mumbai, Maharashtra, India19.0759837 72.87765590000003618.886130199999997 72.775582400000033 19.2658372 72.979729400000039tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3209211706239921024.post-80074075214442117162010-11-25T03:20:00.004-06:002014-06-24T05:49:30.092-05:00Gudari - Cotton Bed Spreads Block Print Vegetable Dyes Coverlets from IndiaPopularly known as Gudari, these Bed Spreads or Coverlets are made of double layered handloom woven cotton fabric. The Bagru and Sanganeri prints are not easily distinguishable but on a closer observation the difference between the two are revealed. The Sanganer prints are always on a white background, whereas the Bagru prints are essentially in red and black. Artistry and intricacy characterize the designs of Farukhabad.
